What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a mental health profession rooted in the belief that the creative process is healing. In session, art is utilized to help facilitate growth and change. Art Therapy can help people increase their emotional intelligence and expression, gain insight and increase communication skills.

Research has shown benefits of Art Therapy in the treatment of: anxiety, depression, mood disorders, PTSD, grief and loss, anger issues, attachment, trauma and phase of life stressors.

Art Therapists receive Master’s level clinical degrees from accredited counseling programs. For more information on Art Therapy or the educational track to become an art therapist, please visit The American Art Therapy Association.

“Art can permeate the very deepest part of us, where no words exist.”
― Eileen Miller

Not Art Class

Art Therapy is not an art class. No art training or skill is required to participate and gain the benefits of Art Therapy.

Art Therapists receive extensive training about the emotional qualities of art materials and strategically provide art interventions to promote therapeutic healing.
